Dr. Jeffrey Burns, MD, MPH is the Shapiro Endowed Chair of Critical Care Medicine and the Associate Chief Medical Officer-Critical Care at Boston Children’s Hospital and Professor at Harvard Medical School, where his also the Emeritus Chief of Critical Care, a position he held from 2004-2024.

Dr. Burns completed his residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Burns’ research focuses on innovations in postgraduate medical education, as well as health services research on pediatric critical illness, intensive care unit organization and delivery. Dr. Burns was the founding director of the Boston Children’s Hospital Simulator Program, the first in-hospital, dedicated pediatric critical care simulator suite in the United States as well as the internationally acclaimed OPENPediatrics.org in 2008, and has published more than 200 articles, reviews, and educational media in pediatric critical care medicine. He lectures widely nationally and internationally and has held numerous leadership positions in the field including as the current President of the World Federation of Pediatric Intensive & Critical Care Societies.

He has received numerous awards over the years including the Dharmapuri Award for advancing the care of critically ill children in 2018, the Distinguished Career Award in 2020, and the Innovation in Education Award in 2025, all from the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Manu Sundaram joined Sidra Medicine in January 2018 as a Physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). He is also the Physician Lead for Quality and Safety within the PICU and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar. Dr. Sundaram brings extensive expertise in pediatric critical care medicine, particularly in acute noninvasive ventilation and long-term ventilatory support for children with complex respiratory needs.

He completed his PICU training at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the UK and previously served as a Consultant in Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine at the University Hospital of North Midlands, UK. Dr. Sundaram is frequently invited to speak at international conferences and to conduct European Society of Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC)-endorsed courses on acute noninvasive ventilation.

Dr. Curley is an international leader and premier clinical scientist in pediatric critical care. Her multisite clinical trials, funded by multiple branches of the National Institutes of Health, have high international impact, and are considered standard setting in the interprofessional management of critically ill children.

Her passion for interprofessional clinical practice centers her research which has primarily focused on nurse-led complex therapies that include pain and sedation management, care of the critically ill child supported on mechanical ventilation and patient and family care post intensive care. Focusing on the primacy of families, she was one of the first to articulate a model of relationship-based partnerships with parents of critically ill children. Dr. Curley has also led the development and dissemination of core assessment instruments in the field of pediatrics; for example, the State Behavioral Scale (SBS), the Withdrawal Assessment Tool (WAT-1), individualized numeric rating scale (INRS) and the Braden QD scale

Dr. Patricia A Abboud MD, MBA,CPE is an American board certified Pediatrician and Pediatric Critical care physician and the Executive Director of Medical Services in the CMO office at Sidra Medicine Doha Qatar. In addition to her patient care responsibilities, she oversees the clinical administration, operational, efficiency, and alignment with the broader objectives of the executive leadership team. She’s responsible for medical workforce management and supporting the CMO in recruitment, engagement, and physician performance management. Her interests include pediatric sepsis and immunology as well as physician leadership and managment. Dr. Yasser Kazzaz is Division Head of Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care at King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, and Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS).

He received his medical degree from King Saud University and completed his pediatrics residency and Pediatric Critical Care fellowship at McGill University, followed by an advanced critical care fellowship at McGill and a two-year fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Toronto, encompassing a dedicated Paediatric Extracorporeal Life Support/ECMO clinical fellowship. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and holds a Master of Public Health in Health Systems and Quality Management from KSAU-HS.

Dr. Kazzaz serves as Secretary General of the Gulf Pediatric Critical Care Society and is an active member of international critical care networks.

His research focuses on quality improvement in pediatric critical care, with particular interest in sepsis, extracorporeal life support, and organ donation.

Professor Akash Deep is the Director of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit(PICU) at King's College Hospital, London and Professor of Paediatric critical care at King’s College London. He is the Trust Lead for sepsis and deteriorating patients.

Prof Deep is the Medical President-Elect for the European Society of Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Society (ESPNIC). He was the Chair of Scientific Affairs for ESPNIC from 2022-2025. He chairs the Liver Failure Working Group for ESPNIC. Prof Deep is the Chair for the Liver Failure Working group for PALISI (Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators) network. He has been the Founding Chair for the Critical Care Nephrology Section of ESPNIC.

Prof Deep is the Chair for the Science and Education Committee of Paediatric Critical Care Society (PCCS) of UK. He is the Trustee to the UK sepsis Trust and is the author of the Surviving Sepsis Campaign guidelines for septic shock in children. Prof Deep is the Chief author of the Sepsis Toolkit for management of sepsis in children released by the UK Sepsis Trust at the House of Commons.

Prof Deep has organised many national and international congresses on extracorporeal support CRRT and hosted the First International Conference of Critical Care Nephrology in London in 2023. He also was the co-Chairman for the 8th International Conference on CRRT in London and the 9th International Conference on CRRT in Orlando, USA. He was the Organising Chairman for 2019 U.K’s National Paediatric Intensive Care congress in collaboration with US’s Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society (PCICS)

Prof is the Chief Editor for the textbook published by Springer on ‘’Critical Care Nephrology and Renal Replacement therapy in Children’’. He is an invited national and international speaker in major Paediatric and Paediatric Intensive Care conferences.

Dr. Abdulla Alfraij is a Consultant Pediatric Intensivist and Director of the Pediatric Critical Care Unit at Ahmadi Hospital, Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Kuwait. He completed his Pediatric Board Certification through the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations (2015) and fellowship training in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at McMaster University (2019). He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Management and Leadership from the American University of Kuwait in collaboration with GATES Group, in addition to certifications in Healthcare Management, Leadership, and Quality & Accreditation Management (CQUAM).

Dr. Alfraij currently serves as Chairman of Kuwait’s National Pediatric Critical Care Taskforce Expert Group, leading collaborative initiatives across all PICUs in the country to advance national standards, protocols, and pediatric critical care systems. He is actively involved in regional and multinational pediatric critical care research, with publications and ongoing collaborations focusing on critical infections, antimicrobial stewardship, and sedation practices, in pediatric intensive care units across the Gulf region.

Dr. Hamood Alshuaili is a Senior Consultant in Pediatric Critical Care at Nizwa Hospital, Oman. He is board-certified in Pediatrics by both the Oman Medical Specialty Board and the Arab Board. Dr. Alshuaili completed his fellowship training at McMaster University, Canada, in 2016. Over the past decade, he has played a key role in establishing the first regional Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) outside the capital, Muscat.
